UTOPIA Legislation Gets Tabled

I'm sure that Jesse from Free UTOPIA was less than thrilled by having to add this little nugget to the Live Blog of The Government Competition and Privatization Subcommittee hearing:
12:55PM Whoa. The UTOPIA legislation is not going to be discussed today. The reason? They're going to "seek consensus" from UTOPIA, Qwest and Comcast before making further amendments on the bill. My main concern there is that this will not be done in public hearings so we might not be able to weigh in again before the general session starts. I'll make sure to keep track of this one and keep everyone updated.

Ok, raise your hand if you think that a consensus stands even a tiny chance of happening here? [crickets]

  2. The Qwest rep spent the entire lunch break having one-on-one conversations with subcommittee members. I imagine that "consensus" means getting UTOPIA to acquiesce to Qwest's new demands.

  3. I wish I could say I am surprised by this. My eyebrows raise involuntarily whenever our current legislators use the word "consensus."

I don't think the word means what they think it means.
